Don’t forget your groom.

With pages and pages written about all the beautiful, gorgeous, pretty flowers brides can have in their bouquets it is easy to overlook and forget the humble buttonhole, but buttonholes are a great way for your groom to express his personality, tie in his outfit with your wedding flowers and create continuity in your wedding colours. Buttonholes don’t have to be boring and below Nicola from Flowers by Eve shares some of her favourite buttonholes plus has a great offer for Weddings in Surrey readers.

The rose will always stand supreme as the classic buttonholes mix it with different leaves, grasses or herbs to create a different look.

Or go for a classic white rose and add a splash of your wedding colour to the buttonhole.

Feeling exotic then orchids make a great buttonhole

Embrace your heritage by injecting heather or thistles for a Scottish theme

Yes – its actually happened in Surrey.  A corporate hotel chain and wedding venue has closed its doors for 6 months due to severe damage from flooding.  Based in a picturesque location in leafy Surrey, but unfortunately next to a river that has burst its banks, it is no longer able to fulfil their wedding bookings during the busiest time of the wedding season.  Disaster, not only for the couples getting married but also the venue in terms of loss of revenue.

I was having a chat to their Sales Manager today who is the allocated ‘bearer of bad news’ as she telephones and cancels all their bookings.  How stressful.  What is interesting though is how few couples getting married have taken out wedding insurance, which would have covered them for situations like these.  A small proportion have gallantly moved their wedding date with the venue in the hope that the refurbishment will be completed by then, and others have simply had to abandon their wedding plans and start all over again, several hundreds of pounds out of pocket.

It is not easy finding a replacement wedding venue, church or registrar in high season.  Invitations, if they have been sent, will need to be reissued, all of these carry a cost.

Your wedding day is going to be one of the best days of your life so far, and some couples spend an average of a year planning that one special day.  It is estimated that the average wedding now costs around £20,000, a substantial investment whether it is being paid for by you, or shared amongst members of your family.  Most couples actually do not purchase wedding insurance with a view that the unexpected will not happen to them.

Although wedding insurance is often viewed as a negative, it needn’t be.  It’s there if you need it, a safeguard so you don’t lose out financially should the worst happen. Peace of mind that you can forget about, which costs very little with cheap wedding insurance premiums starting from just under £21.

There are many parts to organising a wedding, from the venue to the photographer, the wedding dress to choosing the flowers. UK wedding insurance from E&L provides insurance that protects against the unexpected, a supplier going in to liquidation, redundancy, cancellation due to illness or bereavement and so much more.

It has been a while since we organised a Surrey Wedding Industry Networking Evening, in fact since the launch of Fetcham Park. We have had lots of requests to organise another one, but when is the right time to get the wedding industry together?  From April to September wedding suppliers are busy with weddings, and from October through to March it is wedding fair season.   We decided on a  post Christmas get together, hopefully when everyone has got over the festivities, but not in full swing with the 2014 wedding season.

We have had our eye on Burhill Golf Club as the perfect venue for a while now.  Just minutes from the M25 it is a real hidden gem of a venue.  Burhill Golf Club is a stunning Georgian mansion dating  back to 1726, nestled in leafy parkland on the outskirts of Walton on Thames.  It is a truly magnificent wedding venue offering stunning views over the picturesque grounds and the River Mole. The Barnes Wallis Suite can hold civil ceremonies for up to 96 people and 136 guests for a wedding reception up to 150 for an evening reception.   A perfect showcase for the Wedding Industry Networking Evening on January 8th.

We were a little nervous leading up to the date as the weather worsened and the rains kept on coming.  Walton on Thames, was fast becoming Walton under Thames.  Thankfully, although the golf course was closed due to waterlogging the venue remained open!   The response was amazing, nearly 100 wedding suppliers registered for the event from all sectors of the wedding industry, and we had a 91% attendance rate!  Captured on camera by Icy Lazare see if you can spot yourself in the images below.

Johnny Zero,  a well known crooner and vintage singer , created a fantastic welcome with songs from Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Tony Bennett and more which was a great introduction to the marketing master class.
